The Bearers hereof Capt. Bemslee PETERS & --- FAIRBANK are desirous of passing over from Long Island to the Connecticut Shore in order to bring in Some Recruits from thence, for His Majestys Service to Join the Regiment now raising under my Command by Order of His Excellency General HOWE, It is therefore humbly requested of all His Majestys Officers, & all other His liege Subjects that they be permitted to pass and repass unmolested in the Execution of the Said Service- Given under my Hand at Jamaica on Long Island, 30th March 1777
