Thomas MILLIDGE Esquire Major of the 1st Battn. New Jersey Volunteers being duly Sworn, deposeth that he was well Acquainted with the Farm of Philip VAN CORTLAND Esquire on which he lived at Hanover and County of Morris, at the time he was driven from the same and joined His Majesty's Troops & that he thinks the sum of Twelve hundred pounds to be the just valuation of the Farm & Improvements thereon. Also that he had a very general knowledge of the Personal Estate of the said Philip VAN CORTLAND as mentioned in the within Estimate & is of opinion that the same is not rated beyond its real value, and that he laid before him Sundry Bonds, Mortgages & Notes amounting to the sum of One thousand one hundred and twenty four pounds 12/1 Curt. money of New York, exclusive of any Interest thereon, & was well acquainted with the hand writing of the signers, or subscribing Witnesses to the said Bonds Notes & Mortgages, except about Twenty pounds thereof. And that he laid before him his book of Acts. including ballances due him from sundry persons in the Province of New Jersey to the amount of Six hundred eighty seven pounds 14/7 York Curry. & that the whole sum due for said Bonds Mortgages & Books debts are due from persons in New Jersey & irrecoverably lost by Mr. CORTLAND's attainder in said Province.
