Nassau I do hereby certify that I have been acquainted with James INGRAM Esqr. Since the first reduction of the Province of Georgia by Lt Col. Archd. CAMPBELL at which time he lived in St. Paul's Parish in the sd. Province & that to my knowledge he has rendered very important & essential service to Lt. Col. CAMPBELL & Major Genl PREVOST, by procuring them by his influence & interest the earliest intelligence of the movements of the rebels their intentions resources &c &c. In the year 1780 when I marched to Augusta with a detachment of Troops for the reduction of the interior parts of Georgia, he rendered me the service he had before done to Lt. Col. CAMPBELL & Genl. PREVOST by which means I was enabled without loss of carrying into effect the orders of Br. Genl. CLARKE (then commanding in the district). During the Siege of Augusta by the rebels he acquitted himself under my command with great gallantry & fidelity and on all occasions served me with zeal & spirit during my command in the interior parts of Georgia. After the reduction of Augusta he accompanied me to Savannah & raised, clothed & accoutred at his own expence a troop of horse, & on various occasions distinguished himself on service with me as a brave & spirited officer until the evacuation of the Province.
