My Lord,

I am sorry to be obliged to take up so much of your Lordship's time on so trifling a subject or about so very worthless a character as that of our Lieut. Governor.

I have seen a Letter which he has written to your Lordship lately, relative to an offer which he says I made him of Capt. CALLBECK's Company.

I confess I wished to make such an Arrangement as he mentions, but the manner in which he relates the transaction, is full of misrepresentation & falsehoods.

I ask pardon my Lord for using such an expression.

It is the last time if possible I shall ever trouble your Lordship with any such matter.

The safest & best way, with regard to Mr. DESBRISAY is to take it as a general maxim, that he never either writes or speaks truth if he has the smallest motive for doing otherwise.

And as his first object is to remove me from the Government he will pay very little regard to what he says if he imagine it tends in the least to that purpose.
