H. Utrecht 17th Novr. 1778 Sir, Mr. John D. WHITWORTH having this day inform’d me that he is referred to my office from the Inspector Genl. for a certificate of his being muster’d as a Qr. Mr. in the Queen’s Rangers, I think it necessary to inform you that on Staten Island on the 21st Augt. 1776 Mr. WHITWORTH was muster’d as Volunteer in that Corps then commanded by Lt. Coll. ROGERS & that at the next muster which was at Flushing Bay on Long Island in Sept. following he was return’d & muster’d as Qr. Mr., at the muster subsequent to that he was return’d prisoner with the Rebels.
