Private Whitehall 9th April 1778 Sir, Messieurs Grafton and Walters DULANY of the first Battalion of Maryland Royalists commanded by Mr. James CHALMERS, of Kent County in Maryland, have been particularly recommended to me. Their Father was Commissary General of Maryland. The most effectual manner in which I can forward their Recommendation is by desiring you to shew them that Countenance & Protection which I understand their Merits entitle them to, and I am confident it will give you pleasure to be of Service to Gentlemen who appear to deserve the Honour of being made known to you.
