Quebec 17th May 1779

Sir

As I Shall probably have Occasion this Summer to Employ You, & Your Regiment, upon Some active and important Service, I am anxious that you Should now be employed, in preparing them for this purpose,

and in order to prevent other Business from interfering with this Principal Object, I have thought proper to appoint Captain McALPIN to have the Command and Direction of the Several Corps of Loyalists, including both those who are paid, and those who are not,

and in a few Days Captain McALPIN will Wait upon you to Receive all Instructions, Lists, or any other Papers in Your Possession, which May assist him in arranging these Irregular Corps-

and I request, you will give Captain McALPIN every private Information in Your Power relative to this part of the Service.

It will be necessary that you Send Orders to the Heads of all Corps, and to the Individuals who belongs to no particular Body, that they immediately put themselves under the Command and Direction of Captain McALPIN.

I am with great Regard Sir
Your most Obedient
humble Servant
Fred: HALDIMAND
