[Extract of a letter from General James ROBERTSON to Sir Henry CLINTON, undated, circa–November, 1777.]
A Number of the Inhabitants have formed themselves at my desire into Companys. Some of them have made at their own expence uniforms, and all are calling for arms. As I think you may derive real Succour from these, and as I think under our circumstances we may benefit by the reputation of some thousand Americans Arming on our Side, I wish the Spirit may be keepd up by your countenancing it.
