Loyal Rangers
Jessup to Mathews

Verchere April 21st 1782

Sir

I received your favour of the 12th Instant only yesterday with His Excellency’s Commands to March Such of the men in the Enclosed List who are Capeable of serving as Marines on Lake Champlain

But as you will see by the Enclosed Distribution that we have only one Serjant & twelve of these men in Quarters and not more than three of the 12 fit in any way for the service they are ordered for

and as I have reason to think the present Distribution of the others will be agreeable to his Excellency I have ventured to Acquaint you of this Circumstance before I attempted to Collect the men.

I am Sorry I had not Sent this Distribution when I sent the first List Though I Expected it was only to shew which men were unfit for active Service if they Should be Called for I have the Honour to be

Sir
Your Most Obedient &
Most Humble servant
Edward JESSUP

Capt. MATHEWS [Secretary to
His Excellency General
HALDIMAND Montreal.]
