King's American Dragoons |
Copy Whitehall 7th June 1780 Sir The Services of Brigadier RUGGLES the last war, and the Influence he still retains in those Provinces of North America where his Character is known and his Name respected, made me long desirous of seeing that Gentleman engaged in the King's Service. The inclosed Plan of raising a Regiment of Dragoons was communicated to me by Captn. MURRAY by Authority of Brigr. RUGGLES. It appeared to me so fair and so disinterested that I laid it before His Majesty, & it so far met with his Royal Approbation, that he permitted me to transmit the Plan to you. And if the Public Service requires any Provincial Cavalry to be raised, His Majesty would be pleased to see Mr. RUGGLES placed at the Head of such a Corps, where he may have an Opportunity of again acting with that Zeal & Spirit, which formerly did him so much Honor.
