Head Quarters 20th March 1781 General Orders Captain DESPARD of the 79th Regiment is appointed Commandant of the Island of Rattan vice Major JENKINS deceased. He is ordered to hold himself in readiness to embark for the Spanish Main on the 24th inst. with One Lieutenant, One Ensign of the 79th Regiment to accompany him on that service. The whole Rank & file & Drums of the Loyal Irish Corps now upon the Spanish Main are to be draughted into the 79th Regiment of foot the 24th April & to join the detachment of that Regiment now upon the Spanish Main. The Officers and Serjeants of the Loyal Irish Corps to be sent immediately to Jamaica for the purpose of going home in the first Transport to join their Corps ordered to Recruit in Ireland. The remaining Men of Major LEWIS's Corps of Light Dragoons on the Spanish Main are to be incorporated with the other provincial Troops at Bluefields, & the whole to be formed into two independent Companys to consist of Capt. Lieut. Ensn. Serjts. Corpls. Drums. Privates Officers for the first Company Captain DAVIS, Lieutenant TURNER & Ensign FARQUAHAR of the Jamaica Volunteers. Officers for the second Company Captain PARK, Lieutenant MADGETT and Ensign CAMERON of the Batteaux Men.
As the Officers of the Jamaica Corps of Volunteers excepting such who are appointed to the two independent Companys on the Spanish Main are to be reduced from the 24th April, The Commander in Chief takes the occasion of expressing his thanks in a especial manner to Major McDONALD and to the Officers of that Corps for the Zeal and the becoming Spirit displayed by them on every occasion where the Service of their King and Country required it.
