Emmerick's Chasseurs: Clinton to Howe |
King'sbridge Augt. 23d 77 Sir, By all accts. we have received though we have had no certain ones, G. BURGOYNE is still at Saratoga; an affair has happened at Fort Stanwix, we do not learn that Fort is taken-- As the Rebels have of late visited the Environs of our Camp and disturbed the Inhabitants of W. Chester, I have thought it for the good of the Service to collect from the Provincial Corps 100 Good Rifle men, 50 of which I have given rifles to and Appointed Captn. EMMERICK their Chief to which if I have yr. approbation I may probably add 100 more, they will protect the County of W. Chester and prevent desertion, which I am sorry to say is too frequent in the Provincial & Hessian Corps-- G. TRYON spares us a Captn. & 2 Subalterns & I have appointed a Mr. BONAPACIO (whom Lord RAWDON had the honour of recommending to yr. Excelly.) to act as Lieut. in this Corps till your pleasure is known--
I have the honour to be (a Copy) To University of Michigan, William L. Clements Library, Sir Henry Clinton Papers, Volume 263, Miscellaneous Correspondence, 1776-1782. Click here for ---> Regimental History Main Page More Emmerick's Chasseurs History
