Duke of Cumberland's Regiment
Dalling to Clinton

Jamaica 17th November 1780

Sir

I take the liberty to enclose the copy of a letter written to Lord CORNWALLIS, the bearer of which is Lord Charles MONTAGU.

May I beg of your Excellency to assist me in this matter, and in the manner I have mentioned in his Lordship's Letter.

I need not again urge the necessity for men, for where the King's Service requires support, your Excellency ever gives it.

Permit me also to request that your Excellency will be pleased to grant to Lord Charles the Provincial rank of Lieutenant Colonel, as soon as his Corps shall be passed, which rank I mean he shall hold here.

I have the honor to be
with the greatest respect
Sir, yr. most obedient
and most humble Servt.
John DALLING

His Excellency Sir Henry CLINTON
