(Copy) Quebec 27th October 1780 Sir Lieutenant SCHEIFELEN of the Volunteers who accompanied Lieut. Governor HAMILTON upon His Expedition, and Acted as Secretary to the Indian Department, having found means to effect his Escape from the Jail at Williamsburg returns to Detroit, and will deliver this Letter. In consideration of Mr. SCHEIFFLENs Endeavours for and Sufferings in the Kings Service, You will continue to Him his Pay as Lieutenant until further Orders and if You have Occasion for his Services in his other Capacity, You will please to employ Him, with the Pay he before enjoyed, which he informs me was four Shillings Sterling per day.
