I, Benjamin GRIFFITH, a Lieutenant in the service of the King of Great Britain, do acknowledge myself a Prisoner of Warr to the united States of America, and being permitted to reside in the Borough of Lancaster in the State of Pennsylvania on parole do pledge my Word and sacred honour That I will not do or say or cause to be said or done any matter or thing whatsoever which may or can be prejudicial or injurious to the interest or welfare of the said united States or any of them or the Armys or Inhabitants thereof, nor give intelligence in any manner, either directly or indirectly to the Enemies of the said united States And further that I will continue and keep within the said Borough of Lancaster and the distance of three Miles in circumference from the Court House In the said Borough under the direction of the Commissary of Prisoners or other Person or Persons having charge and direction of Prisoners of Warr there and observe and comply with his & their Orders and directions And in all things conduct myself as an Officer Prisoner of Warr on parole ought to & should do Witness my Hand at Lancaster the first Day of February A.D. One thousand seven hundred & eighty one-
