My Lord

Notwithstanding all possible attention and care to prevent Desertion, many Men have left this Camp, & latterly mostly from the first Battn. Delanceys.

I must therefore beg your Lordship would obtain from the Commander in Chief some Warrants to hold General Courts Martial in this Camp. The Sentences of which might be sent to Head Quarters at New York for approval.

There is now In the Provost at New York, one FENTON of Delancey's who lyes under Sentence of Death for Desertion &c &c &c.

If the Commander in Chief means not to Extend Mercy to him It would have some tendency to stop Desertion from this Camp and a terror to Country People who Secret Deserters to have him sent for Execution to this Command.
