Head Quarters Quebec 20th Septr. 1781 Parole St. Peter CS/ [blank] At the General Court Martial of which Lieut. Col. MACLEAN is President, held at Sorel the 14th of August, Ensign PRINGLE of the 84th Regt. is found Guilty of making use of improper Language and striking Lieutenant SMITH same Regt. in Breach of 3rd Article of the 20th Section of the Articles of War, but the Court do not consider it to have passed, when in the execution of his Duty, on which Account and from Lieutenant SMITHs provoking and Unofficerlike Language to him, they Sentence that he should be only reprimanded at the Head of the Battalion by the Commanding Officer. Ensign Neil MACLEAN 84th Regt. is found guilty of using improper Language, to Lieut. SMITH same Regimt. in Breach of the 3rd Article of the 20th Section of the Articles of War, but the Court not considering it to have happened in the execution of his Duty, on that Account and from Lieutenant SMITHs provoking and unofficerlike Language to him, they Sentence he should be reprimanded by his Commanding Officer but not at the Head of the Battalion. The Commander in Chief approves the Above Sentences and directs thay be complied with.
