The Memorial of Benjamin EASTMAN of Arlington County of Bennington and State Vermont

Sheweth

The Distress brought on him on the Acct. of his Loyalty to the Crown and attachment to the Brittish Government in the Year one thousand Seven hundred and Seventy Seven; my sons made proof of their loyalty by Joining the Brittish Army and Served as Soldiers from that till the Close of the war.

In a Short time after my Sons left me I was made prisoner in the month of August and Carried to Albony from thence to Esopus and Other Different places in my Absence the property that I left was taken and Converted to the Use of the AforeSaid [sic] State of vermont and on my Return home in the month of Jany. I was left Destitu[t]e of A Comfortable Support and I am now Sixty Six Years of Age and Unable to labour for my Bread Your Memorialist therefore prays his Cause may be Considered and his Distresses Eleveated-and in Duty Bound Shall ever pray.
