[Extract] | |
To the Honourable The Lords Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury. | |
The Memorial of Andrew MACKENZIE, late of South Carolina Merchant Most respectfully Sheweth That your Lordships Memorialist for several Years before the War between Great Britain & the American Colonies carried on a very considerable Trade at Charlestown in South Carolina, the clear Profits of which exceeded Five Hundred Pounds Sterling P Annum with the fairest prospects that it would considerably & rapidly encrease. That from principle he was firmly attached to the Laws & Constitution of Great Britain, and as long as the Royal Government was maintained in that Country he not only steadily adhered to it, but with great peril to his life, he engaged in & performed several services which in the opinion of His Majesty's Governours were thought very material & Important. That when Charlestown was Surrendered to His Majesty's Arms he was Selected to Command a Grenadier Company of Militia who Armed & Cloathed themselves at their own Expence, & Continued doing Constant Duty untill the British Troops were withdrawn from the Country with whom he Embarked as his Person was Attainted and his Property Confiscated on account of his Loyalty & Attachment to His Majesty's Government...
