To the Honble Commissioners appointed by Act of Parliament for Enquiring into the Losses and Services of the American Loyalists. | |
The Humble Petition of George FARE of South Carolina Sheweth That at the Commencement of the American War the Rebel Army being in Tryon County North Carolina Your Petitioner then Living in South Carolina and near to the said Place He was comppelled by the Rebels, owing to his great Zeal and firm attachment to His Majesty to quit his Settlement and entirely to abandon all his Property which consisted of five Hundred Acres of Valuable Land, Ten Head of horn’d Cattle, Six Horses and Forty Hogs besides many other Articles. That in Consequence of a Proclamation Having been Secretly Published which Called for the Aid and Assistance of all His Majesty’s Loving and Loyal Subjects Your Petitioner Joyned the Artillery in West Florida then Under the Command of Lt. Colonel William JOHNSTON and was taking [sic] Prisoner by the Spaniards at the Siege of Pensacola. Your Petitioner is now in London a Perfect Stranger and in a bad State of health. He is without Money, without Friends, without Support or the means to Acquire it, therefore Humbly prays His Miserable Condition may be Taking into immediate Consideration and Relief Afforded as he must inevitably Perish for want of Bread to Eat. George FARE I do Certify that the Above Named George FARE did Joyn and Act as a Mattross in the Artillery Under my Command in west Florida and Has Unfortunately been brought to England to be Discharg’d. He Came To Pensacola, I think About the time Captain CAMERON Arriv’d Who Said FARE was a good Loyalist, a Sufferer, and of Good Character. I found Him to be a brave trusty worthy Fellow, and Deserve the Character given by Captain CAMERON for which Reason I earnestly Solicit His Sufferings maybe Considered and Relief Granted.
