I do hereby certify that Major Wm. CUNNINGHAM joined His Majesty's Troops in Georgia in February 1779, & was appointed a Lieut. In the 2d Battn: South Carolina Royalists; that on the expedition against Charlestown in the same year, he was made a Prisoner and suffered a rigorous confinement. That on my return to Charlestown South Carolina from York Town in Virginia after the Capture of Earl CORNWALLIS, in the year 1781, Major CUNNINGHAM commanded a body of Provincial Cavalry, & continued to the command of them until Decemr. 1782, when they were disbanded on the evacuation of the Province of South Carolina by His Majesty's Troops; when he retired to East Florida. Major CUNNINGHAM on all occasions behaved with great Zeal & Gallantry, & was much respected by all the Officers of the Army for his active Services.
