BROWN, Henry — a Black — So. Carolina
He was not born free but his Master (Saml. Thorpe) made him free afterwards about four years ago, he lived at Blueford in So. Carolina, His Master was a Rebel but after he was made free he took part with this Country & Served under Capt. PERRY in the Acton, Ship of 40 Guns he came from Carolina in an English Privateer to London where he was press’d on Board a Frigate, he produces a Certificate of property to the Amount of 955 £ which is Certified by Jno. WMS. who lives in Nightingale Lane & who formerly lived in Charlestown & was a Planter. This Schedule if the whole of his Memorial. He is desired to produce some proof that he had this Property.

This Man pretends to very Considerable property but unfortunately for himself he relies entirely upon the Credit of Mr. WILLIAMS to whom from many Circumstances we pay no attention, & indeed Mr. WILLIAMS does not even Certifie in this Case, He only writes the Memorial & under these Circumstances, Mr. BROWN appears to us to be an Impostor & not entitled to receive anything from Government.
