In Committee of the County of Morris Augt. 7th 1776 A Complaint being formily made against Capt. Philip CORTLANDT for not bearing Arms and he being cited to appear before this board, he accordingly appeared & confessed the Charge and this Committee having well considered said Charge do acquit him from the same he behaving himself for the future friendly to the Cause of freedom & the American States and assisting in every other measure agreable to the Rules of Congress and in Case he should in future be allotted to go in the Service he shall accept of the same or hire a man in his Room.
