It is hereby certified that Stephen HOLLAND Esqr. late an opulent resident Freeholder in the Province of New Hampshire, was possessed of a valuable real Estate in sd. Province. An exact valuation of this Property being impracticable to me, at this distance & without papers, I can only conclude from my general knowledge thereof, that it is worth about ten thousand pounds sterling.

I do also certify that Mr. HOLLAND was Colonel of a Regiment of Militia, a member of the General Assembly for many years, Clerk of the Peace & of the Common pleas in the County of Hillsborough & a Justice of the Peace of the Quorum, throughout said Province; All which Offices he discharged with great ability & reputation.

His declared attachment to the British Government, was verified by an unremitting Zeal, and exertion in its support & defence, as well as in every endeavor to promote his Majesty's service during the late unhappy War, whereby he was rendered obnoxious to the then prevailing powers, by whose authority He was repeatedly seized, imprisoned, cruelly treated, and tried for Treason against the new State, whereof, being convicted, He must have suffered death, but happily he effected his escape to his Majesty's army at Rhode Island, & was confidentially employed therein, by the Commander in Chief.

His Property in New-Hampshire being confiscated and sold His Wife & some of his children were banished and sent destitute to him. Justice due to Mr. HOLLAND requires me to add, that upon all occasions, during my administration of his Majestys Government in New Hampshire He was ready, active, zealous & useful in his Majesty's service, to which he always appeared to me, to be faithfully devoted.
