Witness for Thomas Cumings of New Hampshire

To The Right Honorable Lords Commissioners of his
Majesty's Treasury.

The subscriber, who was Secretary to Govr. WENTWORTH in New Hampshire, certifies that Thomas CUMMINS who lived in said Province took Refuge with the King's Troops at New York in 1776, and upon his Arrival there applied to Governor WENTWORTH, who received him as a loyal subject well attached to British Government;

That Major STARK, who was empowered to raise a Battallion gave him a Warrant to recruit, on which Service he was employed untill the Men enlisted by the Major & his Officers were drafted in 1777.

That said Thomas CUMMINS then joined a Number of New Hampshire Gentlemen who were formed into a Company called Govr. Wentworth's Volunteers and continued to serve with them in the Vicinity of New York till the subscriber came to me in September 1780.

The subscriber considered Mr. CUMMINS to be a loyal subject to afford his Assistance for the suppression of the Rebellion, & understood that he lived in good Repute in New Hampshire before the War, but is at present destitute of the Means of Subsistence here.

Thos. MacDONOGH
