Halifax Last Saturday Morning between one and two o’clock, his Majesty’s sloop of war the North, and the armed ship St. Helena, in coming into this harbour from Spanish River, (the Night being very dark, and a S: East storm) were unfortunately drove ashore about a league from the Light-House, by which accident both ships are entirely lost, and about 170 persons were drowned, amongst which are belonging to the North SAVED on Board of St. HELENA The Nova Scotia Gazette and the Weekly Chronicle, (Halifax), December 14, 1779.
