Last Monday his Majesty entering into his forty-fourth year, the cannon at Fort-George were fired, which was succeeded by those from the ships of war, and the other vessels in the harbour; a very elegant dinner was given in celebration of the King’s birth day, by his Excellency Sir Henry Clinton, commander in chief, to the general officers, British and German, a great number of the military, and other principal gentlemen of the city; many entertainments were provided at the principal taverns in town, and on Long-Island. The day was passed in convivial harmony, and closed with a feu de joie fired by the garrison and militia, amounting to many thousand men.
