New York 3d July 1781-- Sir You will be pleased to inform His Excellency the Commr. in Chief that we are employed at the following places, Vizt. Kingsbridge 16 miles from N. York -- Repairing & giving Additional Strength to the Works, & making Fascines for such purposes as may be necessary. Hornshook mid way between -- Making Fascines & Collecting Materials for the Fort, Batteries & Covering Redout. Brooklyn opposite on L. Island -- Making Fascines & Collecting Materials &ca. Levelling the Upper part of the Spiral Redout, (so that it may be Commanded by the Fire of the Fort) and in Repairing & Strengthening the whole, for the Security of the Right Flank. Paulus Hook opposite in Jersey -- Raising and Thickening the Fronts of the Works-- Repairing & giving Additional Strength, and preparing Materials for an Intermediate Battery of Eight or Ten Guns. Staten Island six miles across the river & 10 miles further in the Island -- Repairing and Strengthening the Works at Richmond-- Raising & Thickening the Front of the FlagStaff Redout, & producing the Work, from the Rear to the Edge of the Cliff, so as to gain Two Flanks-- The Rear to remain as a Traverse-- Making Fascines & Collecting Fraising, Plank &ca.
