Information

Information by Nathan HOEG, of Capt
KNAP’s Troop in Colo. DeLANCEYs Corps
of Refugees

He has continued with the Refugees, in the Neighbourhood of West Chester, since Colo. DeLANCEY’s Resignation. They compose still about two or three Hundred, and lay upon the Defensive.

Last Tuesday Night he was at Caleb POTT’s House in East Chester, and spent the Evening with the Family-

About 10 o’Clock there was a Knocking at the Door-  A young Woman asked who was there? & was answered George Briggs-

On opening the Door about 10 or Dozen came up and entered, & Briggs was amongst them, the same Person lately so long in the New York Provost.

The Informer was asked who he was? & then set upon by a certain Eden Hunt, who swore he would put him to Death-

First he beat him with his Fist-  then felt his Pockets and took out several things-  then he was ordered out of Doors, & immediately afterwards he had a slash with a Sword upon his Forehead-  then another on the Back of his Head & a third on his left Arm.

Each Blow cut a Wound, but the first was the most considerable, and left the Skull Bone bare nearly two inches-  He thinks all the Blows were given by Eden Hunt.

He did not fall under either of His Strokes, but ran and escaped, tho’ followed in full Chase near Half a mile, till he concealed himself in a wood.

His wounds have been dress’d by Doctor NUKSE [?] who attends the Refugee Corps, and can give a full account of the Condition to which he was reduced by the Wounds, & Mr. POTTs Family will declare that the Informer gave no manner of Provocation.

Besides George Briggs and Eden Hunt there were of the Party known to him, Edward Briggs Brother to George & John Archer-  The latter of those has served as a Guide to the American Army-  He can’t learn that either of them is of the Gang called Skinners.
