South Carolina Light Dragoons (Fenwick's)
Skelly to Fenwick

Dear FENWICK

General LESLIE desires me to acquaint you that he has received your Letter and tho he has every inclination to serve you, he finds himself unable to do it in the line you propose, as he would rather wish at present to diminish than augment the Cavalry in this province, owing to the great scarcity of Forrage.

The General is perfectly convinced of your exertions, and of the Sacrifices you have made to goverment, and approves of your intention of going home to settle your affairs in which case you will have his permission, for the time you require and continue to receive your full pay as Capt.

So much for the Official part of this Letter. Now my Dr. FENWICK as your friend I hope I need not assure you that if it is in my power to serve you either here or at home you may always command me.

I am with sincere esteem
Dr FENWICK
Your affectionate
humble Servt.
F. SKELLY A.D.C.
