Extract of a letter from Lieut. Colonel BRUCE to Colonel FANNING, King’s American Regiment,

Head Quarters New York May 7th 1781

I have it in command from his Excellency the Commander in Chief, to express to you the high sense he has of your zeal, and to tell you that in consequence thereof he has recommended you and your corps to the King for permanent American rank and half pay.

I have the honor to be with great regard,
