Butler's Rangers
Remarks on Beating Orders & Pay Lists

Remarks on the beating order and Paylists of the Corps of Rangers.

[no date]

By the Pay lists already paid by your Excellency it appears that Contingent men were allowed to the Corps of Rangers.

The beating order directs the Officers shall be paid in the same manner with Officers of like rank in his Majesty’s Service.

No distinction is made in this particular, either in the present or former pay bills, but both first and second Lieutenants have been paid alike.

The Non Commissioned Officers were intended to be paid in proportion to the pay received by the Privates; but it appears this proportion has not been observed, as the pay charged for them is considerably less.
