The Memorial of Simon MUNRO late of the Province of Georgia Humbly Sheweth That your Memorialist for upwards of Twenty years was settled in that Province, as a Merch. And planter, but being firmly attach’d to the British Government he was summoned to appear before the usurp’d powers of their State, and having avow’d his Sentiments was in Consequence Banished in the year 1777 under pain of death in case of return (as will appear by the annex’d vouchers) and moreover restrain’d from going to the Neighbouring Province of East Florida. That your Memorialist was Compell’d to proceed to the Bahama Islands at Considerable expence form thence to Jamaica, West Florida and St. Augustine, at which last place, he soon after went a Volunteer against the rebels in Georgia under the Command of Lt. Col. FUZER late of his Majesty’s 60th Regt. That after the reduction of Georgia by his Majesty’s Arms in the year 1778 Your Memorialist was Appointed Lt. Colonel of Militia, a Civil Majestrate &ca &ca under Commissions from Lt. Governor PREVOST, which appointments were afterwards Confirmed by Sir James WRIGHT Bart., and the duty of said appointments were executed by your Memorialist untill the Evacuation of Savannah in July 1782 at which period your Memorialist was made prisoner by the Rebels in attempting to Visit his wife & Family previous to his departure with the British Garrison. That your Memorialist soon after applyd for permission to come to Europe upon parole which was granted for Eighteen months upon Condition of returning at the expiration of that term if so required, and your Memorialist accordingly procured a Flag of truce for Charlestown So. Carolina, from whence he obtained passage to this Country in one of his Majesty’s Transports in December last. That soon after his arrival Your Memorialist presented a State of his losses to John WILMOT Esquire and Daniel Parke COKE Esquire who were pleas’d to order him a present subsistence of Eight pounds P annum...
