Letter, James Wright to James Ingram

The Governor's Respects to Coll. Ingram. Would have sent him a Copy of General CLARKs Letter about the matter of Rank but has mislaid it.

However I well remember the Fact to be That he would allow the Rank of Provincial Officers agreeable to the Articles of War, on your having Now [illegible] Omitting the word Militia, until he wrote to General LESLIE & recd. His Opinion or Orders.

As soon as the Govr. finds the Letter, will send him a Copy of it. Has mentioned to the Council the Conversation of the other day. Had I, declining to Law under Col. CAMPBELL, unless when going out on Actual Service, but that Nevertheless he wished to have the word Militia Left out, but there are Objections to it, as disputes may Probably arise about the Command & Rank & all Provincial Corps receiving Pay must be under the Command of the Military Line.
