Engineer's Department
Twiss to Stapleton

[Copy]

The Commander in Chief having directed that a Foreman of Carpenters be sent to Niagara, to carry on the various works executing at the Post, in the Engineer's Department, you are therefore with all convenient speed to repair to that place, and shew this order to the Commanding Officer, strictly observing to obey all Orders you may receive from him or any Officer appointed by him, to direct the Engineer's Department.

Your established pay of three Shillings per day conformable to the Warrant you have received, from the Master General of the Ordnance, will continue to be paid by the Commissary of Artillery as formerly but your Extra pay as Foreman, being one Shilling per day, will cease at Sorell, on the 30th October, from which time you will receive that Allowance, on the Books at Niagara.

Given under my hand at Quebec this 25th day of October 1781.

[Signed]  Wm. TWISS
