Butler's Rangers
Memorial of John McKinnon

To the Right Honourable Lord North,
One of His Majesty's Principal
Secretaries of State.

The Memorial of Captain John McKINNON of Colonel BUTLER's Rangers in Canada.

Humbly Sheweth,

That your Memorialist having the Whole of his left side struck with the palsy while in the heat of service in the back countries in May 1782, obtained from General HALDIMAN[D] leave of absence which leave after his arrival in England His Majesty was graciously pleased to renew. That your Memorialist was for some time under the care of Doctor SANDERS of Spring Gardens in London, who recommended to him to try the good effects of his native air.

That your Memorialist accordingly came to this country about the latter end of April, where he has continued ever since under the direction of a practitioner of physick. But having not yet recovered the use of his arm and leg so as to be capable of service to his country or to himself, as will appear by a certificate sent to Sir George YOUNGE, he humbly requests of your Lordship to obtain for him a further leave of absence, or in case of the Regiment's reduction to take his case into consideration and to place him upon that establishment which is allowed to officers of his own rank, who have lost their health in the service of their country.

And your Memorialist shall ever pray, as in duty bound,

My Lord,
Your Lordship's
most obedient humble Servant,

Kilmory near Inveraray, Argyllshire
