Memorial of Alexander McDonald of Pennsylvania

To the Honble. the Commissioners appointed to
enquire into the Losses and Services of all such
persons who have suffered in their rights, properties
and professions during the late war, in consequence
of their Loyalty to His Majesty and attachment to the
British Constitution &c &c &c

The Memorial of Alexander McDONALD late a Captain in the First Battalion of Brigr. General SKINNER Brigade

humbly sheweth

That at the earliest Period of the late war he exerted himself to promote the Cause of his Sovereign, and being greatly persecuted by the Kings Enemies he was obliged to relinquish his Property and seek protection within the British lines.

That in the year 1777 he joined the British Army with a considerable number of men whom he influenced to accompany him when he escaped from the Enemy, since which period he was on constant duty as an Officer in His Majestys British American Corps, to the close of the Warr, when he embarked for this Province with a large family.

That in consequence of his early exertions, his joining the British Army and remaining therein, the Kings Enemies have confiscated and sold all his Estate, lying and being in the Province of Pennsylvania, agreeable to the State hereunto annexed.

That his being in the Service of His Majesty on an out Post, deprived him of an opportunity of acquainting himself with the mode of, or preferring his Claims agreeable to the requisition made by a former Act of Parliament.

Wherefore Memorialist requests that he may be indulged with a hearing respecting his claim, as early as possible, that his sacrifices, sufferings and Services may be taken into consideration, and such relief granted as the Situation of his case merits.
