Witness on Behalf of Ezekial Foreman of New Jersey

I hereby Certify, that in the Spring of the year 1779, when I commanded the Chasseurs at Kings Bridge- the Bearer Ezekial FOREMAN, a Loyalist from New Jersey, at the Risque of his Life came to the Lines and Informed me that four men belonging to my Corps, who were Prisoners with the Rebels, were under Sentence of Death, and that by his timely and useful Information, I was enabled to dispatch a Flag of Truce to General McDougall, so as to save their Lives.

That after Mr. FOREMAN had given me this Information he went and resided in the Garrison of New York, and that he always appeared to me, firmly attached to his Majesty and the British Government.

I do therefore beg leave to recommend him as a meritorious Loyalist in great distress, to the Benevolent Attention of Government.

Lt. Col. Comt.

London 28 July 1788.

Great Britain, Public Record Office, Audit Office, Class 13, Volume 109, folio 302.
