Witness for Thomas Cumings of New Hampshire

To the Right Honourable Lords, Commissioners of
His Majesty's Treasury &c &c

It is hereby certified that I was personally acquainted with Mr. Thomas CUMINGS late of Holies in the Province of New Hampshire before and at the commencement of the Rebellion in America.

That he was always esteemed a firm friend to British Government and did at all times use his utmost endeavour to support it and counteract the Rebellions party from the begining which made him so far obnoxious that he was obliged to make his escape to the British Troops.

That on my arrival within the British Lines at New York in May 1777 Joined Governor Wentworth's Volunteers of which he was one and did constant duty with him in Arms against the rebels without pay or reward (but merely from a principle of Loyalty) till January 22d 1778 at which time I left that country, but have every reason to believe that he continued disinterestedly firm in the cause and service of Government till the end of the war.
