Claims & Memorials
Memorial of John McKenzie of North Carolina

To the Right Honorable The Lords
Commissioners of His Majesty's Treasury.

The Memorial of John McKENZIE

Humbly Sheweth,

That Your Memorialist having suffered a very long & rigourous imprisonment in America, with the other Loyalists embodied in No. Carolina, & taken at Moore's Creek in 1776; and afterwards served as Captain in the British Legion, has lately made application for Half Pay as such-- to which application he has not as yet received an answer.

That he has also laid his Claim for Losses in America, before the Commissioners of Claims, who have examined the same, but have not yet reported thereon.

That Your Memorialist was obliged to come to England to obtain a settlement of this business, and not being able to bring any thing with him to defrey his expences, has hitherto been supplied by his friends with money both for his passage from New Providence & Subsistence since his arrival in London.

That Your Memorialist, in hopes that his Half pay would have been granted, or something advanced on his Claim, did not think of troubling Your Lordships on any other Account: But being reduced to the greatest distress, without any means of Support, & his friends no longer disposed to defray his expences;

Your Memorialist therefore humbly begs Your Lordships will be pleased to Grant him Such Temporary relief and Support, (until his said application for Half pay may be settled, or his said Claim Reported by the Commissioners) as to Your Lordships may appear Just & Reasonable. And Your Memorialist will ever Pray &c --- &c --- &c.
