Royal Artillery Regiment
Schaw to Molleson

New York 10th Novr. 1783

Never having heard till to day that any donation Cloathing was given to the Negroes under the British protection, I am to inform you that the Company of free negroes, attached to the civil branch of artillery, with their wives & children, all of whom have proper certificates & passes stands as under

Men 43
Women 29
Children above ten years old   7
Under ten 24

All these people go to Nova Scotia, I must therefore request that you will make the proper application to let them have the benefit of the Bounty with the Negroes of the other departments. I believe I may say, they need it most, being allowed only Six pence in money & a ration per diem to maintain themselves & find them in Cloaths &c.
