Abstract of disbursements in the Quarter Master Generals department for the hire of Gardiners & Labourers for raising Vegetables for the use of the Army & Navy at New York.

The high Expence attending Gardining in the year 1778 was incured in the Cultivating & manuring Governors Island. Notwithstanding which, there was very little Benefit had from it, Owing to Admiral GAMBIERís Ordering his Sheep, Cows & Hoggs into it.

Ranelagh, Vauxhall & the Bowling Green Gardens are Sufficient to furnish the different Hospitals, both Navy & Army, with every Species of Vegetables &c and will not be attended with so much Expence as the former years, On account of the good order the Ground is in at present.
