Loyalist Muster Rolls
Emmerick's Chasseurs

Emmerick's was one of those corps that you will see referenced in many other muster rolls throughout the war. The Chasseurs were initially raised from different existing corps, and that was usually noted on the muster rolls of those units.

In the spring of 1778, Emmerick received permission to recruit at large for his unit and greatly expand its size. At that time any surviving members of the original unit were given the choice of whether they wished to return to the regiment they had initially enlisted in, or to remain in the Chasseurs. Some soldiers remained under Emmerick while others opted to leave for their old units.

In the fall of 1779 you will once again find mention of Emmerick's Corps on other rolls. This was due to the disbanding of the Chasseurs and the drafting of the men into other Provincial units.

For additional information on this regiment please see the Regimental History of Emmerick's Chasseurs.

The muster rolls in existence for the Chasseurs are not complete, particularly for 1779. They span from April of 1778 to August of 1779, when the corps was drafted. They can all be found in the National Archives of Canada, RG 8, "C" Series, Volume 1891.
